Personal Reflection

Today, I discovered something about myself.

During class, we had an activity about our topic on SWOT. It is an acronym used in Management for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Our teacher told us to write our personal SWOT. Instead of using it to analyze a company or a product, he wanted us to use that concept to analyze our selves.

I stared at my paper for some time because I cannot think of anything to write. I asked myself, what is my Strength? Do I even have any? I can't really think of anything I'm really good at.

Moments like these just magnify my feeling of inferiority and self-doubt. After doodling some things that I didn't really think were my strengths, I then answer the next question: What are my weaknesses? And then it hit me.

I cannot think of any weaknesses either! Don't get me wrong. I know my personality. There are many things about me that I can consider as weaknesses. However, I didn't think of it like that.

Instead,  I see them as things that I can improve upon. I don't know. It just caught me by surprise that even though I don't have a high regard for myself, I'm not frustrated or pessimistic about my life either.

After that activity, a sense of contentment resurfaced in my heart. Even though I know that I am an unworthy and a lowly human being, I am contented and happy with my life because of my trust in HIM that directs my path.

Fearless Forecast!

This is a spur of a moment thing.

The NBA has been very entertaining even during this offseason for die hard basketball fans like myself because of the big name trades, the talented draft pool, and the never ending rumors involving its superstars. So while waiting for tweets and articles on any development  around the league, I decided to make this fearless forecast!

First, hopefully the Lakers could acquire Dwight Howard for Andrew Bynum, and Josh Smith for Pau Gasol. Their starters would be:

      • Steve Nash (PG)
      • Kobe Bryant (SG)
      • Metta World Peace (SF)
      • Josh Smith (PF)
      • Dwight Howard (C)
Okay, I'm now awake from my dream. (lol!)

My fearless forecast is this (even as a Laker fan): the Miami Heat will still be the world champ this coming season!
That team, with the reinforcement of Ray Allen is just  dead strong. I assume that LeBron would also improve on his jump shot and footwork so goodluck to the other teams.

This is a photoshopped picture of Allen wearing a Miami heat jersey. Cool!

If ever that happens don't forget that you heard it first here! Wohoho!

:)

Finally, You Can Edit Comments on Facebook!

Before June ended, Facebook quietly allowed its users to edit their comments. Yehey! (sarcasm intended. lol!)

You no longer have to delete your entire comment because of a dumb typo error, or after you realized how awful your certain comment was! You just go ahead and edit it. By this, you will not look dumb to your friends anymore.  That's great, right!?
That 'Edited' button contains all the changes of mind you did while commenting. lol!
Well, not really. Facebook has also added an "Edited" button that lets everyone know that you changed your comment and what changes you made to it. This is still inline with the philosophy of Facebook of dictating us how to handle our online conversations and limiting what we can do with our privacy settings. ^_^ (You know what I mean if you're familiar with the way Facebook's timeline altered how you share posts on your wall)

If you want more info, go visit Facebook Help Center.
(Was their answer helpful? No!)

Lol. Just kidding. :)

Google Like A Pro

The world wide web is so vast that it is almost impossible to look for information without the use of search engines like Google.

It serves as our window to the web.

This post is dedicated to give you some tips that may help you get the most out of this technology:
  1. Limit your words. Remove unecessary words from your search terms. Remove words like my, it, in, the, etc.
  2. Use Advanced Search. (http://www.google.com/advanced_search) It is my homepage actually. From there it is easier to fine-tune your search.
  3. If you're a little hesitant to use Advanced Search, you can still use the normal Google coupled with some operators. Here are my favorites to use:
    • Putting a - (negative) sign before a word will tell Google not to show any webpages containing that word. For example, you want to search for the keyword virus but not including computer viruses, you can type in virus -software.
    • Putting double quotes before and after a word or phrase will tell Google to search for those exactly ("this is your search term") . This is useful, for instance, if you're looking for non-english words. And if you don't want Google suggesting that your spelling is incorrect.
    • Define: word If you typed in on Google search box with this format, it will give you the dictionary definition of the word. Of course you could type in any word. :)
    • You can use Google search box like a normal calculator. Go ahead and try it. Also take note that it follows MDAS. Don't know MDAS? What on earth! (joke!) see this blog on MDAS Rule. :)))
    • If you place site: .edu or site .org after your keywords, Google will only give you results that are from .edu or .org websites. This is specially helpful when looking for reliable sites that can be cited as a reference on research papers. For example, in looking for researches about the timeline of the Internet, we should type in: internet timeline site:.org and/or internet timeline site:.edu (Obviously, although ending with .org wikipedia.org is excluded) Why can't wikipedia be cited as a reference?
    • An asterisk (*) serves like a blank for Google to fill in. For example, you can't remember the exact words of an idiomatic expression, let Google do it for you. (Try "a * on the wrist") As you can see, I used double quotes to tell Google that I want that exact phrase but I also want Google to fill in that (asterisk) blank.
This is the interface of Google Advanced Search: one of my favorite sites on the Internet!

Well, that's it. I hope you learned something from this post.
